In recent years, seed coating and enhancement technology has become very important in advanced and modern global agriculture.

Coating of seed nutrients is a process designated to create superior environment for the germinating seed to draw upon. This provides a “boost” for the seeding. Allstar’s precision coating capability offers customer a wide range of coat applications, for example, we offer 34% to 50% coat for alfalfa seed.

Coating seed offers several benefits – protection, improved water retention, superior planting characteristics. Coated seed is unpalatable to birds improving its chance for survival over raw seed. Once irrigated a coated seed retains more moisture. Also, it will retain moisture longer. This enhances its ability to germinate. A dehydrated seed will not germinate.

Planting coated seed is more effective and efficient. If you plant the seed by broadcasting and then flood irrigate the field you will find raw seed will float and settle in groups. This causes uneven growth and completion between overpopulated seeds. Coated seed does not float. It remains where it was broadcast thereby providing better distribution for uniform plant population. When seeds are germinated the more evenly spaced plants produce better crops.

Coating also offers advantages when using precision planters. The ball-like form created by coating works better in planting machinery. This in turn improves the seed placement and increases crop production by improving the seed distribution.
